Pastor Dennis Gano was born and raised in Portland, Oregon, where he attended Concordia High School and College. After receiving his BA in 1974 from Concordia Senior College in Fort Wayne, Indiana, he enrolled at Concordia Seminary in Saint Louis and earned his MDiv in 1978. In the fall of 1979, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue an advanced music degree at the University of Southern California. He finished his Master of Church Music degree in 1983.
While in Los Angeles, he has served in a musical or pastoral capacity in several congregations. The greatest number of years was spent at Bethany in Hollywood, as well as his current position at First in Culver City-Palms. He also currently serves as the Director of Music at University Lutheran Chapel in Westwood.
In 1996, Pastor Gano opened Church Music Supply, a business that provided sheet music and other resources to a wide variety of denominations throughout California and the United States. The business ceased regular daily operation in 2008.
Pastor Gano’s greatest love is to lead a congregation in singing hymns and liturgy. He also enjoys reading e-books on his iPhone and listening to classical music. His favorite composers are J. S. Bach and Felix Mendelssohn, although his listening tastes include most anything written for organ or choir. In addition, he has a passion for cars from the 1950’s.
